Danish Sound Award 2019 presented to Professor Torsten Dau

At Danish Sound Day 2019 on the 9th of October, Torsten Dau, professor at Danmarks Tekniske Universitet - DTU, was given this year’s Danish Sound Award (Dansk Lydpris).

Torsten Dau’s research specializations are auditory signal processing and perception in humans, functional models of auditory processing, speech perception, computational scene analysis, auditory evoked potentials, hearing instrument signal processing and aided psychophysics.

The jury had several names of potential candidates sent from the network.
Torsten Dau was chosen for his great work, both nationally and internationally.

“It is a great honor for me to be present here and receive this special award. It means a lot to me. I’ll do my very best to continue and elaborate the fine collaboration with many of you from the Danish Sound Network and to create new possibilities for synergy that, hopefully, will help many people who are suffering from their hearing loss. Thank you very much for this nice recognition.”

The Danish Sound Day also hosted the Research Pitch Battle, a competition where three researchers are invited to talk about their sound-related projects in a 5-minute format.

Selection of the three finalists happened based on nomination statements submitted prior to the day. Naim Mansour from the Hearing Systems Division and Franz Heuchel from Acoustic Technology reached the finals on behalf of DTU. Franz Heauchel claimed the prize, after a thrilling and high-level event.

The purpose of the Danish Sound Award is to focus on Denmark as an international lead in sound research and industry and the innovative companies and individuals that contribute to ”LydDanmark”. The Danish Sound Award is given for innovative application and further development of sound and in this way contributes to maintaining Denmark's leading position at this field at an international level.

The Dansih Sound Day is a collaboration between Struer "Lydens By" and Danish Sound Network.
The prize consists of a bronze plaque.
